OVERVIEW: A MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) Design Manager in the construction industry is responsible for overseeing and managing the design aspects of MEP systems within construction projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensure management of the MEP design process in accordance with company policy, procedures and the Design Management Plan.
• Arrange full construction (MEP Installation & planning) support during the design phase to maximize constructability.
• Support the delivery of the contracted MEP Engineering services to the client
• Participate in establishing and implementing the Project Management Plan and / or Design Implementation Plan and procedures.
• Prepare tender strategy; identify qualified consultants, contractors and vendors; prepare and issue RFP’s; evaluate proposals; negotiate contract terms/deliverables/payment schedules; and issue recommendation to the client.
• Oversee and guide consultants design progress activities. Monitor and verify design progress and submittals at all design phases.
• Attend or chair meetings and / or workshops with consultants and contractors, prepare meeting minutes and follow up to achieve identified actions.
• Organize/manage design review meetings, workshops and reports during design phases
• Advise the Project Director / Manager on all matters pertaining to cost scope and schedule with regards to design development.
• Research and identify industry and market best practices and techniques to implement into project
• Manage the whole MEP Project from execution till hand over to the client.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• 10+ years minimum of relevant work experience managing multiple construction projects is required.
• Time Management – organized, set priorities, meet deadlines, multi-task and a Team player.
• Ability to be reasonably on-call as necessary to support the ongoing 24/7 operations of our clients which may include evenings, weekends and some holidays.
• Exceptional proficiency in project management, including planning, coordination, and execution of MEP design processes, ensuring company policies, design standards, and project objectives.
• Bachelor’s in Civil or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or relevant.
